Miley Cyrus knows the power of transformation. The multihyphenate went from Disney star to provocative pop artist to bona fide rock star in the span of less than two decades. Similarly, she’s bought and sold a number of hot properties in both Los Angeles and her home state of Tennessee over the years, leaving her stylish mark on every one of the homes. “My mom believes that nothing is permanent, that there’s nothing that can’t be undone,” she told Architectural Digest during a tour of her Hidden Hills home in 2021.
(Her mother, Tish Cyrus, is an interior designer who worked on that home and redid the Cyrus family home in Nashville.) “People make bold choices in their lives, and sometimes those gambles work and bring you good fortune, and sometimes they don’t. But it’s a risk she’s willing—and I’m willing—to take in our lifestyle, and that is reflected in the design.” Here, we’ve rounded up some of Miley’s most eye-catching properties, including one with a rainbow recording studio and another with equestrian facilities and a vineyard.

Miley is still holding on to her starter home. She paid $3.9 million for the ranch-style property in Studio City (purchased specifically so that she could stay close to her family’s house in Toluca Lake) a year after the release of her third studio album, Can’t Be Tamed. The gated residence features five bedrooms and seven bathrooms spread across 4,948 square feet, with major midcentury-modern vibes: a funky green front door, a skylight-topped living room, floor-to-ceiling glass sliders for smooth indoor-outdoor living, and a glistening saltwater pool and spa out back. There’s even a yoga room.

Next, the singer inched closer to the hubbub of Hollywood with the purchase of a 5.5-acre horse ranch and vineyard in celeb-favorite Hidden Hills. She reportedly paid close to $5 million for it, about the same amount she would later sell it for in 2018. The main house boasted five bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms spread across 6,000 square feet, with wide-plank hardwood floors and beamed ceilings. One of the most impressive features was a 1,000-bottle wine cellar. Elsewhere on the grounds were a pool and spa, an outdoor fireplace, a built-in barbecue, vegetable and citrus gardens, and even a small hillside vineyard. There was also a 10-stall barn, a one-acre riding ring, and several fenced paddocks.

Before her song “Malibu,” there was Miley and then partner Liam Hemsworth’s creative retreat in the beachy enclave. The singer paid $2.5 million for the eccentric midcentury home, a modest 1,385-square-foot two-story structure tucked away behind trees and tropical plants. The couple used the pad as a guesthouse, and Miley even added a rainbow-colored recording studio to the premises. The open-plan living and dining room featured high ceilings and custom-made glass doors opening out onto the backyard; the primary bedroom had a private balcony that overlooked a gazebo, Jacuzzi, and two-car garage. Miley ultimately sold the place for $1.7 million in 2020 following her split from Hemsworth. (Another home the couple lived in, also in Malibu, was destroyed by the Wolsey Fire in 2018; Hemsworth sold that home for $3.6 million in late 2020.)
2017
Miley took a break from her Los Angeles real estate collecting to purchase a $5.8 million ranch in her home state of Tennessee. The Franklin property spanned a whopping 33.5 acres, with a main home measuring nearly 7,000 square feet. In contrast to her sleek, glass-lined West Coast abodes, the singer’s Tennessee home had a strong farmhouse aesthetic, with a long wraparound porch and reclaimed wood flooring, lofted ceilings, plenty of shiplap, and fireplaces abound—there was even a fireplace in the screened porch. Images of the home’s interior are scarce, and it’s unknown whether Miley renovated much of the existing structure (built in 2014), but by the time she sold the property for $14.5 million in 2022, she had more than doubled her investment.
2020
Miley and her mom teamed up to design and decorate her next home, a $5 million midcentury mansion in Hidden Hills. Photos from the time of the pop star’s purchase reveal an elegant mostly white aesthetic, which Tish and her design partner Mat Sanders transformed into a uniquely colorful, dynamic residence fit for a rock star. Among the changes were a “glam room” with leopard-print wallpaper, a psychedelic-themed music studio, and a powder room with Gucci tiger wallpaper.
“My biggest thing is that when you walk into someone’s house, I want you to know who lives there, what their personality is, what they love, and what they’re like,” Tish told AD. The home comprised six bedrooms and six bathrooms spanning 6,394 square feet; a lagoon-style swimming pool; and an open-air pavilion with an outdoor kitchen. The singer didn’t hang onto the property for long, though, off-loading it for $7.2 million barely one year later.
2022
In late 2022, Miley made her return to Malibu with the purchase of a $7.9 million Mediterranean-style mansion. The six-bedroom, six-and-a-half-bathroom pad was originally built in 1999 but has since been updated, boasting a mix of crisp white interiors and both hardwood and stone tile floors. Its entertaining areas are vast: a double-height foyer, a formal dining room that can easily seat up to a dozen guests, and a living room with a fireplace and an adjacent billiards room. There are also floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open easily out onto the home’s outdoor patios and heated pool. And if her mom Tish has anything to do with it, no doubt the home will soon take on some color and life of its own.
