EUR 24.446 mln needed in budget 2018 for electronic mass media in Latvia

EUR 24.446 million are needed in next year’s budget for electronic mass media, said member of the National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP) at the parliament human rights and public affairs committee meeting on September 12th, cites LETA.

According to NEPLP estimated, EUR 14.48 million are needed for the Latvian public television (LTV), EUR 7.919 million for the Latvian radio (LR), EUR 611,081 for operations of the NEPLP, and EUR 1.436 million for support to commercial TV and radio.


One of the main priority measures in the sector is strengthening of the capacity of public media, allocating EUR 439,423 to LR, and EUR 360,577 to LTV for the purpose.


Also, financing has been allocated for implementation of the events for Latvia’s Centenary – EUR 257,000 have been earmarked to LTV and LSM.lv portal, and EUR 200,000 to commercial mass media for broadcasts of Centenary events.


Development of infrastructure and technologies will require EUR 2.190 million in 2018, EUR 410,000 in 2019, and EUR 165,000 in 2020.
