EUR 31 mln to be earmarked for strengthening Latvia’s border with Russia, Belarus

The Latvian government today supported the proposal of Interior Ministry for long-term liability in order to ensure more than EUR 31 million allocation for strengthening of Latvia’s border with Russia and Belarus in 2017-2020, informs LETA.
The allocations will include EUR 20,557,173 for building of infrastructure
on the Latvian-Russian border, and EUR 10,682,585 on Latvian-Belarus border.
The initiative does not require additional financing and the project will
not have impact on the budget expenditure in 2017, 2018 and 2019, the ministry
said.
Latvia’s border with Russia is 276 kilometers long. The infrastructure
project was launched a couple of years ago.
