Steve Smith wished his friends and fans in India a Happy Diwali on Twitter and used the hashtag home away from home.
In Short
- Smith is currently nursing a shoulder injury
- His side lost the five-match ODI series against India 4-1
- He will now lead Australia in the Ashes starting on November 23
Australia skipper Steve Smith wished his "friends and fans" in India on Diwali.
Smith, 28, is one of the world's leading batsmen and was at the forefront of a tense encounter with India in a four-Test series earlier in the year.
Smith's decision to look at the dressing-room for help with the DRS did not go down well with India captain Virat Kohli and there were some heated words spoken at the post-match press conference.
However, Smith went on to apologise after India clinched the series in Dharamsala and later led Rising Pune Supergiant to the IPL final.
The Australians returned in September for a limited-overs tour and lost the ODI series 4-1. The T20 International series ended in a 1-1 stalemate after the final match in Hyderabad was washed out.
Smith had to fly back home before the T20 series got underway after sustaining a shoulder injury.
The Australians are now gearing up for the Ashes which start down under next month.
