Holland Park's Plan K shines with natural light

Article content

There are few things as uplifting as a space filled with natural light.

And there’s little doubt, if the sun is out, that this well-designed townhome in Walden is going to make the most of it.

Show homes are now on display at Excel Homes’ new Holland Park development, including the window-rich Plan K.

The 1,293-square-foot model has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a den.

From the curb, the development stands out. Its uncommon European-influenced contemporary architecture brings a high level of visual interest and charm.

And the windows that add to this effect from the exterior, play an even more important role inside. They’re large and smartly arranged.

In the master bedroom, alone, there’s the generously sized primary window, along with a tall and skinny window on the same wall. They’re supplemented by a transom window on another wall, over where the head of the bed would be.

A similar format — with a broad window and smaller supporting sources of light — are a bright spot in the great room and dining area, as well.

On warm days, people can turn to the full-width balcony, which is ideal for everything from a morning coffee to an evening glass of wine. It’s accessed through sliding glass doors in the great room.

The great room and dining area flank a central kitchen, in a main level featuring airy nine-foot ceilings and an open-concept design.
Domestic chefs will appreciate the meal preparation space in this kitchen. Both the island and counters, which are polished engineered stone, provide plenty of options for chopping, dicing and seasoning.

Some of those ingredients can be homegrown. The Holland Park development is planned to include a central green space, and community garden — giving residents the ability to plant their own herbs and vegetables.

The island sits under pendant lighting and has an extended eating bar that comfortably seats three people. As presented in the show home, there are stainless steel appliances, dark toned cabinets and a white backsplash.

The top level provides all of the sleep spaces needed for a young family, each including spacious wall closets. There’s also a full bathroom — with chrome fixtures and glazed porcelain tile — and a laundry area with a stacked front-load washer and dryer.

On the ground level, there’s a tandem car garage with an optional flex area. While the flex area is full of potential, in the show home, it’s staged as a home office.
