Every summer, Queen Elizabeth departs from the hustle and bustle of London to holiday at her beloved Scottish estate Balmoral Castle. Many members of the royal family drop by to spend time with her and Kate Middleton and Prince William seen visiting her several days ago. While the royals generally have private chefs to cater to their every need, Queen Elizabeth may have ordered in recently for herself and her guests as she reportedly has a favourite takeaway nearby Balmoral.

Speaking to Fabulous Digital, a royal source revealed that the Queen occasionally has someone grab her a cheeky meal from town while at her summer holiday home. (Clearly, she’s yet to discover the delights of Deliveroo.) As for her supposed order? It’s a quintessentially British staple.

The source said, “She very occasionally treats herself to fish and chips when at Balmoral.”

“A footman is despatched to get it from the local town of Ballater,” they continued.

Queen Elizabeth isn’t the only royal supposedly partial to fast food, as Meghan Markle previously revealed in a 2017 interview with Best Health Canada that she could “eat French fries all day long”. Markle, who has a fondness for cooking and previously shared recipes on her former lifestyle blog The Tig, also doubled down on her love of chips when she told Delish, “French fries and vino are my vices.”

Her sister-in-law Middleton also told BBC Radio One that she herself was a fan of a takeaway curry. Although Prince William told the radio show that he was “not so good with spicy food”, the Cambridges elaborated that they didn’t go pick up their takeaway orders presumably for safety reasons - saying, “It doesn’t usually get ordered to the palace, we tend to go and pick it up...not ourselves!”

Queen Elizabeth’s personal chef Darren McGrady previously told The Telegraph that the royal is “not a foodie” and that she “eats to live”, unlike Prince Philip who “loves to eat and would stand and talk food all day”. McGrady added that Queen Elizabeth was typically “very disciplined” with her eating habits, though she is particularly fond of one dessert.

McGrady, who worked for Queen Elizabeth for 15 years, told RecipesPlus, “Now the chocolate biscuit bake is the only cake that goes back again and again and again everyday until it's all gone.”

"She'll take a small slice every day until eventually there is only one tiny piece, but you have to send that up, she wants to finish the whole of that cake,” he said.
