Moscow Community Calendar: Fall Family and Parent Weekend, international events and more

5:30 p.m. Monday | Veterans Appreciation Dinner
International Ballroom, Bruce M. Pitman Center
Major General Erik Peterson will serve as keynote speaker on the 101st anniversary of Veterans Day. Doors for the event will open at 5:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 6 p.m. Veterans and one guest are welcome for free. It is recommended to RSVP by calling 208-885-4152 by Thursday, November 7.

3:30 p.m. Tuesday | International Conversation Social Hour
The Center, formerly known as the Campus Christian Center
The International Programs Office will host an opportunity for students to meet and chat with students from around the world. Free snacks will be provided.

5:30 p.m. Wednesday | Kay Sargent: Mindfulness in the Modern Workplace
Vandal Ballroom, Bruce M. Pitman Center
Kay Sargent, the senior principal and director of WorkPlace for HOK architecture and design firm, will present a lecture on technology, stress and neurodivergence in the workplace.

6 p.m. Thursday | Oxfam Hunger Banquet
Vandal Ballroom, Bruce M. Pitman Center
The Oxfam America Club and the Center for Volunteerism and Social Action has teamed up to present a free banquet open to all. Participants are invited to come hungry.

8 p.m. Friday | Fall Parent and Family Weekend Trivia
International Ballroom North, Bruce M. Pitman Center
Vandal Entertainment and the RHA will host a 90’s themed trivia event Friday evening for parent and family weekend. There is an opportunity to win prizes.

11 a.m. Saturday | Lifting for Life
Student Recreation Center Atrium
Pi Kappa Alpha has teamed up with the SRC to create a class that teaches the fundamentals of the squat, bench-press and deadlift in honor of Keegan Felton, who passed away at the SRC in August 2017. In return for a $10 donation, participants will receive coaching from professional trainers on these exercises.

2 p.m. Sunday | Fall Dance Concert: Breaking Boundaries
Physical Education Building, room 110
The Dance Program will present a contemporary dance concert featuring work by UI dance faculty and guest artist Michael Schumacher. Limited seating is available. Tickets are $8 for students and $10 for the public and are available online and at the door. There will be a Q&A with the choreographers and cast following the show.

3 p.m. Monday | Transforming Educational Reform in the Arab World
College of Education, Health and Human Sciences, room 141
Rima Karami-Akkary of the American University of Beirut will present her perspective on the TAMAM project, for which she serves as director and principal investigator. The TAMAM project designs capacity-building strategies and other initiatives for schools based on their needs and priorities. Karami-Allary is appearing as a courtesy to colleague UI assistant professor Julia Mahfouz. The event is free and open to the public.
