Charlie Sparks ignites the dance floor with a selection of electronic favourites

THINGS are moving pretty fast for Uk techno newcomer Charlie Sparks.

While studying architecture the lure of the dance floor kick started a love affair with energetic techno which is now seeing him appear on some of the world’s biggest stages.

Charlie will be touching down at Scotland’s Terminal V in Edinburgh on Saturday April 8, playing alongside techno royalty such as Slam, Amelie Lens, ida Engberg and I Hate Models.

The Summer is looking equally as bright with Extrema in Belgium, Kappa Futur Festival in Italy and Awakenings Festivals in The Netherlands all in the diary.

Charlie will also be launching his own record label, ELEKTRA next month with the first label night taking place on April 28

in Manchester.

We caught up with him this week and he’s put together a playlist of 10 of his  current favourite tracks.

Charlie Sparks - Welcome To London Remix

This track was made to show the London side of my artistic background and the main focus was to try to recreate the ‘grimy’ style found within London and the underground music scene. The use of Flowdans vocals and the heavy low-end bassline achieve just that.

Peder Mannerfelt - Sissle And Bass (Perc Remix)

This is an old-time favourite of mine when I first got into techno music, the hard-hitting vocals and synths are always one to remember. I still picture the feeling of hearing this track at different venues across the world

Dave the Drummer - One Night In Hackney

An iconic track made by one of the best in the history of this scene. A storyline like this unique kick and a hard-hitting groove just makes you never forget the track

Charlie Sparks - Tatakai

This is one of my favourite own productions. It uses a low kick and bass accompanied by an anime sample and acid line to drive you forward.

Neils Van Gogh - Pulvertum (DJ Tomcraft Remix)

This one is made for the summer, the track gets you feeling like you are right under the sun with blue skies around.

Guigoo, Dr Peacock - Japanese Nightclub

I fall in love every time with the comparison between the soft melodic build-up and then the quick change in the drop. The hard-hitting sound of the raw kick and bass just makes you want to move.

Alex Wilcox, Latrice Pink - Always

Funky vibes with a touch of donk to get the party started. This one always gets everyone by surprise with a smile on their face.

Farfaders, Guigoo, Matt Weasel Buster - Asian Tek Foundation

Amazing track that utilises the sharp iconic sound of a Japanese Shamisen which is then accompanied by a low bouncy kick to get you moving.

XTECH vs Protokick - Cybercrimes

Low, raw and driving track which is always received well in the club.

Mandidextrous - Bad Ass V.I.P

Straight forward and pumping. This track embodies the sound of the UK by crossing over Jungle and DnB into a fast-paced tek track. Always good vibes from Mandidextrous’s productions.
