FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Indiana University School of Dentistry at IU Fort Wayne faculty and students are preparing for a service trip to Honduras.

Students and faculty will visit Honduras from Friday until Feb. 8. During the trip, they will provide dental care to underserved communities.

The trip will allow students to apply clinical skills in a real-world setting and help those in need.

Steve Ellinwood, director of dental education at IU Fort Wayne, says the trip will offer students graduating soon the chance to work in an environment different from their local clinic.

“Down there we’re working and we’re working at a pretty fast pace,” Ellinwood said.

Jasmine Diaz and Brittany Baiz, students who will be going on the trip, said they are excited to use their skills in a new setting and to help those in need.

“It’s amazing because I know not everyone gets this opportunity,” Diaz said.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Baiz said.
