UK tourists are scrambling to cancel trips to Spain and Italy amid an overtourism crack down. The clampdown on tourists in the European Union nations has left holidaymakers furious, with Brits rushing to cancel trips abroad as a result.

Tourist taxes are now in effect in the likes of Venice, Barcelona and beyond, while Spain has strict new laws demanding Brits hand over dozens of peices of information to hotels under restrictions that critics have said are "Big Brother" like.


One user said: "It is a rather simple solution. Boycott holidays to Spain. They don't want the revenue that comes from the UK holidaymakers." Another commenter said: "I will never go to Spain again," and one more said: "They need to be careful what they wish for."

"I live in Mallorca and honestly, it's never been busier, but the trend is towards the very big spenders. A very small minority are calling for tourism to be capped, and holiday lets are making housing unaffordable," another typed.


"The aim of the regional government is to attempt to cap numbers, and attract bigger spenders, which appears to be working." And another user said: "Not a hard choice is it? Spend thousands to go where you are not welcome or choose a more friendly destination?"

Another said: "Boycott it as a holiday destination, they will soon be begging us back." And another typed: "I've never been and never will go to Spain! I've unfortunately met quite a few Spanish in my time, and like Al roca, they are not very nice, so quite frankly, it put me off!"

"If it weren’t for Britain Spain would collapse!" another tourist fumed. "Carry on as you are Spain, and you will see a real dent in your tourism industry. Be careful what you wish for!" another commented in response to the new rules.

Another said: "Spain doesn't want Britons there anyway. They've been making that clear for a while now" Another said: "Don't swap Spain for Italy either, it's too cultured for your average yawnball supporting lager lout and accompanying overweight family."
