Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has named Francesco Longobardo as its new head of casualty in Italy.

Longobardo will operate out of Milan, spearheading BHSI’s foray into the country’s casualty segment.

He will manage the underwriting of primary and excess casualty insurance across various industry segments.

Longobardo’s insurance career spans more than 20 years, including senior liability underwriting roles at a global insurer for the past 17 years.

Prior to this, he served on the brokerage side of the business.

BHSI Italy country manager Leonardo Castrichino said: “We are excited to continue our expansion, with Francesco leading our entrance into the casualty market in Italy. He will also continue to build out the team that will bring our financially strong casualty capacity and CLAIMS IS OUR PRODUCT advantage to customers and brokers in Italy.”

Last year in September, BHSI set up a new office in Milan and appointed Leonardo Castrichino to lead the business.

In November 2024, BHSI strengthened its Italian team with the addition of two key executives.

Vincenza Viele became the head of claims, with Alessandro Majerna appointed as the head of professional indemnity and cyber for Executive & Professional Lines.

In Italy, BHSI operates under Berkshire Hathaway European Insurance DAC.

BHSI provides a wide array of insurance products including both admitted and non-admitted policies.
