Brits are hastily cancelling their Spanish and Italian getaways as both countries tighten the reins on tourism. The new measures, which include tourist taxes in cities like Venice and Barcelona, have sparked outrage among UK holidaymakers.

Spain's stringent regulations now require British visitors to provide extensive information to hotels, a move that has been labelled by some as "Big Brother" tactics, reports Birmingham Live.

One disgruntled traveller remarked: "It is a rather simple solution. Boycott holidays to Spain. They don't want the revenue that comes from the UK holidaymakers." Another vowed: "I will never go to Spain again," while a third warned: "They need to be careful what they wish for."

A resident of Mallorca chimed in, saying: "I live in Mallorca and honestly, it's never been busier, but the trend is towards the very big spenders. A very small minority are calling for tourism to be capped, and holiday lets are making housing unaffordable," Meanwhile, another individual highlighted the regional government's strategy: "The aim of the regional government is to attempt to cap numbers, and attract bigger spenders, which appears to be working."

Finally, one commenter summed up the sentiment: "Not a hard choice is it? Spend thousands to go where you are not welcome or choose a more friendly destination?" One individual expressed strong sentiments, declaring: "Boycott it as a holiday destination, they will soon be begging us back."

Meanwhile, another bluntly shared their personal experience: "I've never been and never will go to Spain! I've unfortunately met quite a few Spanish in my time, and like Al roca, they are not very nice, so quite frankly, it put me off! ".

The situation prompted a heated response from another holidaymaker who insisted, "If it weren't for Britain Spain would collapse! " They further cautioned the country with a stern warning: "Carry on as you are Spain, and you will see a real dent in your tourism industry. Be careful what you wish for! ".

Additional commentary emerged from someone who observed, "Spain doesn't want Britons there anyway. They've been making that clear for a while now".

Yet another opinionated tourist advised against an alternative destination, stating: "Don't swap Spain for Italy either, it's too cultured for your average yawnball supporting lager lout and accompanying overweight family."
