Pete Buttigieg will be among the three keynote speakers headlining the 2025 AIA Conference on Architecture in Boston. His addition was announced by the American Institute of Architects ahead of the upcoming annual meeting, which takes place from June 4th to the 7th in the Rafael Viñoly-designed Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.
The other speakers will be digital storyteller/architect Dami Lee and AI expert Allie K. Miller. Buttigieg will talk about the role infrastructure plays in improving the economy of tomorrow. The former U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary and Presidential candidate's appearance follows Barack Obama, whose remarks on affordable housing made headlines at the 2022 conference in Chicago.

hehe butt.
What does Pete have to do with anything relevant, let alone architecture? And don't tell me he will talk about transportation, something he did nothing about including what happened in East Palestine. Maybe something about bicycle lanes, his favorite topic while head of transportation.
The AIA cannot help itself. The politicization of architecture and coding of design as "Democrat/Left Wing" will continue to diminish the profession.
I'd be curious to hear what Buttigieg actually has to say. I've only heard him on a few occasions, and he was well-informed, thoughtful, and unbiased. I also assume he learned quite a bit about infrastructure while running Transportation, which is his topic at the conference, and that infrastructure is related to architecture.
I suppose learning on the job is one way to run a department of national importance.
And Sean Duffy's qualifications are...?
Inviting Sean Duffy would have been more serious. A person actually in power to be questioned and influenced. But architecture is no longer a serious profession.
Unfortunately, we'll have a bit to wait before getting serious about building a sustainable future built on fixed transportation, but I'm looking forward to seeing what he has to say as he knows how to synthesize facts into a coherent whole.
