Park Rapids seniors earn scholarships and awards

Park Rapids Area High School had its scholarship and award ceremony on Friday, May 16.

Local and regional businesses, organizations and community members awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships this year in support of students in their future endeavors.

A total of $67,050 in local scholarships were awarded. Together with $275,370 college and other outside scholarships, graduating seniors received a grand total of $342,420 in financial support as follows:

• Emma Berghuis: CHI St. Joseph’s Health Senior Scholarship $1,000; Russel Koerper Memorial Scholarship $1,000; Theodore J. Haberer Memorial Scholarship $500; Park Rapids American Legion Nursing Scholarship $1,000.
• Natalie Berghuis: Merrill H. Gibbs Memorial Scholarship $500; CHI St. Joseph’s Health Senior Scholarship $1,000; Russel Koerper Memorial Scholarship $1,000; Theodore J. Haberer Memorial Scholarship $500; Flint Hills Discovery Scholarship $2,500; Benedictine Scholarship $28,000 (renewable). 
• Nora Bolton: University of Minnesota CLA Frey Success Scholarship $16,000; Forum Communications Scholarship $1,500.
• Peter Carroll: Nolan Hanson Scholarship $5,000.
• Ryan Carroll: John Schumacher Memorial Scholarship $500.
• Nora Cederstrom: CLB Scholarship $1,000; John Schumacher Memorial Scholarship $1,000; Park Rapids American Legion $2,500 (four years); Sons of the American Legion $750; Park Rapids DAV Chapter 38 $1,000.
• Mari Clark: MSUM Fire Up academic scholarship $5,000.
• Kiera Demoret: John B. Skeffington Scholarship $1,500; CLA Sands Scholarship $4,000 ($16,000 for four years), Iron Range Scholarship $1,000 ($4,000 for four years).

• Catherine Worner: NDSCS Foundation Scholarship $2,000.

Winning the Outstanding Math Award were Natalie Berghuis, Nora Cederstrom, Tyler Crissinger, Emma Kovach, Thomas Lopez, Aiden Maanum, Brandi Morgan, Tyler Officer, Allie Rowland, Abby Runyan, Landon Strasburg, Harmony Trygstad, Rachel Ulvin, Bella Vinge, Catherine Worner and Anna Yliniemi.

Outstanding Social Award winners were Emma Berghuis, Natalie Berghuis, Nora Cederstrom, Tyler Crissinger, Kiera Demoret, Kadence Ennen, Kayla Grussing, Thomas Hartung, Henry Johnson, Emma Kovach, Thomas Lopez, Aiden Maanum, Tyler Officer, Allie Rowland, Abby Runyan, Landon Strasburg, Harmony Trygstad, Rachel Ulvin, Bella Vinge, Catherine Worner and Anna Yliniemi.

The Outstanding English Award went to Emma Berghuis, Natalie Berghuis, Nora Bolton, Nora Cederstrom, Tyler Crissinger, Kiera Demoret, Kadence Ennen, Thomas Lopez, Aiden Maanum, Abigail Marsden, Isabel Nevala, Allie Rowland, Abby Runyan, Harmony Trygstad and Anna Yliniemi.

Grace Ruper was named artist of the year and Kyla Mercil the outstanding student council member. Catherine Worner won the John Philip Sousa award, and Abby Runyan received the National School Choral Award. Foreign exchange students Yi-Nuo Lai and Karolina Trckova were also recognized.

Perfect attendance awards went to freshmen Jaden Davis, Andrew Mercil, Austin Miller, Karlee Rowland and Christopher Vargas; sophomores Madeline Brandt, Molly Cederstrom and Kolby Crabb; juniors Malakia Avila, Kaden Gartner, Sarah Hartung, Katelin Wheeler and Hunter Siltman; and seniors Kaden Crabb, Santhu McFarlane, Brandi Morgan and Sean Ward.

The school also gave out numerous Panther Tracks Awards in various career tracks.
