Tom Homan: ICE Arrests Set to Surge as Trump Admin Floods Sanctuary Cities

Border czar says interior enforcement push will double arrests of criminal aliens

By yourNEWS Media Newsroom

Border czar Tom Homan warned on Friday that arrests and deportations of illegal aliens are about to “substantially” increase as the Trump administration begins a sweeping crackdown across U.S. sanctuary cities.

Homan’s comments followed new directives from White House deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem, who instructed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to carry out a minimum of 3,000 arrests per day—doubling the current average.

“We need to do a hell of a lot more,” Homan told Daily Caller’s Vince Coglianese on Vince. “We’ve got over 600,000 illegal aliens in this country with criminal convictions walking the streets… arresting 1,000 a day is not enough.” Homan praised Miller as “the architect” of the operation and said ICE agents will now “flood the zone” in sanctuary jurisdictions to accelerate enforcement.

“So sanctuary cities are gonna be flooded with officers,” Homan continued, “doing what they need to do to find these public safety threats… you’re gonna see those numbers increase substantially in the next few weeks.”

WATCH:

As of late April, Homan reported 139,000 deportations had taken place since President Donald Trump returned to office on January 20.

The enforcement surge comes days after the Supreme Court ruled in a 7–2 decision that the Trump administration could proceed with revoking parole protections granted under President Joe Biden’s CHNV program. That program had allowed over 532,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to enter and remain in the U.S.

Liberal mayors such as Michelle Wu (Boston) and Brandon Johnson (Chicago) refused to commit to cooperating with ICE when questioned during a congressional hearing in March. Johnson later walked back statements suggesting he would direct police to obstruct deportations, but continues to encourage protests of Trump’s immigration agenda.

Homan has repeatedly criticized officials in sanctuary cities for what he describes as “shielding criminals,” and has cited past arrests of violent offenders as justification for aggressive enforcement tactics.

Funding for the intensified ICE operations is expected to come from a $46.5 billion immigration and border security proposal included in Trump’s “big, beautiful bill”, a sweeping tax and spending package currently under debate in the Senate. The bill also proposes $4.1 billion for Border Patrol hiring and an additional $1,000 application fee for asylum seekers.
