FARGO — Munir Isahak didn't run the time he wanted Saturday at the Essentia Health Fargo Marathon, but the former Fargo South and Concordia Cobbers runner still cruised to victory in the men's 10 kilometers.

Isahak crossed the finish line in 33 minutes, 11 seconds, more than four minutes ahead of the second-place finisher.

“It’s OK, I wanted to run a little bit faster than this, but being by myself the whole race made it a little bit difficult," said the 27-year-old Isahak. "It’s a good day, I’m OK with the time for now.”

Isahak next plans to run the half-marathon at Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota, a race that is slated for June 21.

“This is kind of a checkpoint for me right now," Isahak said.

Isahak runs for the Lake Effect Athletics Club, which is based in Duluth. Former Moorhead High School and Cobbers runner Tom Sederquist is one of the founders of that group. Isahak said Sederquist is also set to run the half-marathon at Grandma's.

Isahak also won the men's 10K at the 2023 Fargo Marathon, crossing the line in a course record time of 31:26. He said that's the fastest 10K he's run in a road race.

Scott Kvidera, from Grand Forks, finished in second place Saturday in a time of 35:59. Kyle Downs, from Bismarck, took third place in a time of 36:52.

“Winning is always fun, that’s always the goal," Isahak said. "If I can win, I’d be happy with that, but if I can run a good time I’m OK with that, too.”
