Following our previous look at an opening for a Production and Installation Manager at the Lassonde Art Trail Foundation, we are using this week’s edition of our Job Highlights series to explore an open role on Archinect Jobs for an Intermediate Preservation Architect at Architectural Resources Group (ARG).
The role, based in Portland, OR, calls for an individual who will work on all project phases of preservation projects, as well as develop detailed Revit models to be utilised for design and construction drawings. Candidates should have a degree in architecture with a demonstrated interest in historic preservation and/or material conservation. As well as five or more years of experience.
The open role at ARG offers us the opportunity to explore the work of the preservation studio, including several projects that have previously been reported by Archinect. Earlier this year, we reported on ARG’s work at Pasadena’s Norton Simon Museum, which includes a $14 million exterior improvement project comprising facade conservation/enhancements and a new entrance. A role at the museum was itself featured in our Job Highlights series last month.
The firm is also currently involved in the sensitive disassembly of Lloyd Wright’s Wayfarers Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, necessitated by an unprecedented landslide event in 2024. ARG has been involved with the chapel for over a decade, beginning with preparing a Historic Structures Report on the building in 2015.
Elsewhere, ARG has assisted the Eames Foundation in the preservation of the Eames House and Studio in Pacific Palisades, including implementing a conservation management plan. Among the improvements were seismic strengthening, building system upgrades, and fire protection and suppression; moves which take on a heightened relevance given the scheme’s narrow escape after recent wildfires.
Back in 2022, meanwhile, the firm’s work on the SurveyLA Historic Context Statement – L.A. Modernism, 1919-1980 project was recognized at the 2022 Modernism in America Awards by Docomomo US. The “one-of-a-kind” project took a deep dive into the history of the built environment in Los Angeles, including the work or architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Irving Gill, and Richard Neutra.
Job Highlights is one of a number of ongoing weekly series showcasing the opportunities available on our industry-leading job board. Our Meet Your Next Employer series profiles and interviews interesting studios with open positions currently available on Archinect Jobs, while our weekly roundups curate job opportunities by location, career level, and job description.
