CHARLEVOIX, MI - One of Michigan’s largest inland lakes has been named among 25 other lakes in the country as the best for swimming.
Lake Charlevoix is on the Reader’s Digest list, in no particular order, of 26 Best Lakes For Swimming in the U.S. this summer.
The lake stretches from Charlevoix on the west, all the way to Boyne City to the east.
Lake Charlevoix is connected by a channel to Lake Michigan. It is the third largest inland lake in the state.
“Separated from Lake Michigan by a narrow spit of land, Lake Charlevoix is calmer, more temperate and less windy than its mighty next-door neighbor,” Reader’s Digest wrote.
“The charming small town of Charlevoix is a dreamy slice of Americana complete with a general store, quirky architecture and curving cycle paths.”
Lake Charlevoix has around 55 miles of shoreline and is known for its clear water and sandy beaches. It is also a hot spot for fishing, boating, kayaking, paddleboarding and hiking.
