WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI — There are many roadwork projects and closures ongoing and scheduled around Washtenaw County, disrupting drivers’ routes.
Drivers in Ann Arbor will have to navigate around the downtown Ann Arbor Art Fair through Saturday. Plus, starting Monday, July 21, South State Street will be closed between East Hoover Avenue and Packard Street until Aug. 29 to construct a new water main.
In Lodi Township, there will be a daytime road closure on Ellsworth Road between Zeeb and Wagner roads from Monday, July 21 to July 28 for limestone resurfacing.
Here’s a round-up of other traffic restrictions and road work affecting commute times and travel across the county for Friday, July 18, and the week ahead.
ANN ARBOR
Church Street: The northbound lane between Willard and Hill streets is closed for almost two years for the construction of a high-rise apartment building. The lane will reopen April 1, 2027.
East William Street: The road is closed between South Fifth Avenue and South Division Street from Monday, July 21 to Friday, July 25 to dismantle the tower crane used to construct new buildings.
Huron Street: Eastbound from Fourth Avenue to Division Street is closed for permit work through Sept. 26. There will be two lanes closed for construction with a lane shift eastbound from Fletcher Street to Glen Avenue from Monday, July 21 to Aug. 15.
Independence Boulevard: Restricted access between Packard and Manchester Road from Friday, July 18, to Aug. 30 to repair identified curbs, ramps and install new sidewalk.
Maynard Street: The road will be closed from East Liberty to East William streets until 5 p.m. Friday, July 25, to paint the parking structure.
Miller Avenue: Full closure from Seventh Street through and including Chapin Street is ongoing until Sept. 30 for an underground watermain installation.
Nixon Road: The road is closed between Huron Parkway and Bluett Drive to accommodate the installation of roundabouts, pavement removal and replacement, public utility work, associated sidewalk, sidewalk ramp and crosswalk improvements. It will reopen 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22.
Pauline Boulevard: The road between Seventh and Main streets is closed until the end of July while a new water main is installed.
South Division Street: Between Hill Street and Hoover Avenue, the street is closed until 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 while the University of Michigan’s South Fifth Housing and Dining project installs utility service leads and water main.
South State Street: The road is closed between East Hoover Avenue and Packard Street from Monday, July 21, to Aug. 29 to construct a new water main.
Special event closures
The following streets will be closed as part of the downtown closures for restaurant and retail use Thursdays at 4 p.m. through Mondays at 6 a.m. from Sunday June 1 through the end of September.
- Main Street from William to Washington streets
- West Liberty Street from Ashley to Main streets
- East Liberty Street from Main to Fourth streets
- West Washington Street from Ashley to Main streets
The following streets will be closed for the 2025 Ann Arbor Art Fair until Sunday, July 20.
- Liberty Street from Ashley to South State streets
- Main Street from William to Huron streets
- East Washington Street from South Thayer to Fletcher streets
- North University Avenue from South State to Fletcher streets
- South University from South State to Forest streets
- Church Street from Willard Street to South University streets
- Thompson Street from East Liberty to West Willard streets
- Maynard Street from East Liberty to near East Jefferson streets
OTHER WASHTENAW COUNTY PROJECTS
Ann Arbor Township - Maple Road (Foster) Bridge: The bridge will be closed between Huron River Drive and Country Club Road until an undetermined date for work.
Ann Arbor Township - Maple Road: There will be lane restrictions between M-14 and Craig Lane until July 26 for shoulder maintenance.
Ann Arbor Township - Joy Road: The road is closed in both directions at U.S. 23 until Oct. 5 for construction.
Ann Arbor Township - U.S. 23: The shoulder from 8 Mile at the northern border of Washtenaw County to the Ohio State Line is closed for construction until Nov. 15. There will be a lane closed northbound and southbound from Packard Street to Huron River Drive until July 31 for permit work.
Dexter - Stofer Road: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between Island Lake and North Territorial roads from Monday, July 21, to Friday, July 25, for a fogseal.
Dexter - Hadley Road: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between North Territorial Road and Lyndon Township Lane from Monday, July 21 to Friday, July 25, for a fogseal.
Freedom Township - Waters Road: There will be a daytime closure between Haab and Parker roads until Monday, July 21, for limestone resurfacing.
Lodi Township - Ellsworth Road: There will be a daytime road closure between Zeeb and Wagner roads from Monday, July 21 to July 28 for limestone resurfacing.
Lodi Township - Ann Arbor Saline Road: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between Saline City Limits and Pleasant Lake Road between Monday, July 21, to Friday, July 25, for a fogseal.
Lyndon Township - Island Lake Road: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between Werkner and Stofer roads from Monday, July 21, to Friday, July 25.
Lyndon Township - Hadley Road: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between Lyndon Township Line to the County Line from Monday, July 21, to Friday, July 25, for a fogseal.
Northfield Township - Joy Road: The Joy Road bridge over U.S. 23 is closed through Nov. 15 while crews complete a partial demolition of the overpass that was severely damaged when a semitrailer hit it. The shoulder is also closed for construction through Sept. 14.
Northfield Township - Kearney Road: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between Jennings and Barker roads from Monday, July 21, to Aug. 1, for forestry work and drainage.
Northfield Township - North Territorial Road: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between U.S.-23 and Dixboro Road from Monday, July 21, for a fogseal.
Pittsfield Township - Ann Arbor-Saline Road: There are intermittent lane restrictions at Maple Road through Aug. 1 for traffic signal work.
Pittsfield Township - Ellsworth Road: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between Platt and Carpenter roads from July 14 to August 29 for mill and resurfacing.
Pittsfield Township - Platt Road: There will be intermittent lane closures between Textile and Morgan roads until the end of July.
Pittsfield, Ypsilanti townships - Packard Road: There will be intermittent lane restrictions from U.S. 23 to Cross Street through October.
Pittsfield Township - Morgan Road: There will be intermittent lane closures between Carpenter Road and Michigan Avenue until the end of July.
Saline: Maple Street at Woodland River and Thibault Lane will have intermittent lane restrictions until Aug. 1 for traffic signal work.
Superior Township - Geddes Road: There will be intermittent lane closures between Andover and Wexford drives until Aug. 25 for non-motorized pathway construction.
Superior Township - Geddes and Superior roads: The intersection will have intermittent lane restrictions until July 26 for paving.
Superior Township - Clark Road: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between LeForge and Prospect roads until Friday, July 25, for drainage.
Augusta, Ypsilanti townships - Bemis Road: The road is closed between Stoney Creek Road and Hitchingham Road through Aug. 23.
Ypsilanti Township - Snow Road: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between Grove and Rawsonville roads through July 25 for crackseal work.
Ypsilanti Township - Hearthside Drive: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between Lake and Lakeview avenues until July 25 for crackseal work.
Ypsilanti Township - Garden Court: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between Lakeview Avenue and the end of the road until July 25 for crackseal work.
Ypsilanti Township - Cottage Lane: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between Hearthside and Grove drives until July 25 for crackseal work.
Ypsilanti Township - Pasadena Avenue: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between Lakeview Avenue and the end of the road as well as between Coolidge Avenue and State Street until July 25 for crackseal work.
Ypsilanti Township - Outer Lane Drive: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between Lakeview Avenue and the end of the road as well as between State Street and the end of the road until July 25 for crackseal work.
Ypsilanti Township - Emerson Avenue: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between Lakeview Avenue and the end of the road until July 25 for crackseal work.
Ypsilanti Township - Beverly Avenue: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between State Street and the end of the road until July 25 for crackseal work.
Ypsilanti Township - Coolidge Avenue: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between Beverly and McGregor avenues as well as between Pasadena and McCartney avenues venues until July 25 for crackseal work.
Ypsilanti Township - Cadillac Avenue: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between Coolidge Avenue and the end of the road until July 25 for crackseal work.
Ypsilanti Township - Watson Avenue: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between Coolidge Avenue and the end of the road until July 25 for crackseal work.
Ypsilanti Township - State Street: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between McCartney and Desoto avenues until July 25 for crackseal work.
Ypsilanti Township - Greene Farms Subdivision: There will be lane restrictions until July 25 for sidewalk and curb replacement.
Ypsilanti Township - Golfside Road: There will be intermittent lane closures between Packard Road and Huron River Drive/Clark Road from Tuesday, July 22, until Aug. 1 for mill and resurfacing.
Ypsilanti Township - Clark Road/Huron River Drive: There will be intermittent lane restrictions between Golfside and Hewitt roads from Monday, July 21, until Aug. 1.
