Cultural Center Displays Panoramic Display

DES MOINES, IA (08/08/2017) (readMedia)-- The Patty and Jim Cownie Cultural Center will be filled with art and hands-on learning at the 2017 Iowa State Fair. Home to Iowa's largest art show, the Cultural Center features Make and Take projects, art activities, a 150 foot Panoramic Photo Display, a painting class and much more.

Fairgoers can let their creative flags fly with the Make and Take projects available in the Cultural Center including magnets, wire jewelry and name bracelets. Young fairgoers can also participate in fun hands-on activities at Art Attack in the courtyard.

Always a Fair favorite, the state's largest art show will showcase exhibits in the areas of fine arts, photography, creative arts, wood projects, doll house and miniature room displays. More than 1,600 exhibits will be on display.

Eleven days of live demonstrations and working exhibits also offer Fairgoers the opportunity to see art in action, with artists demonstrating wheel thrown pottery, glass fusing, china painting and more.

At the 2016 Iowa State Fair, photographers Tim Olson and Tony Moline used 1920's equipment to shoot a 150-foot long panoramic portrait showcasing roughly 800 visitors, exhibitors and vendors during the Iowa State Fair. This year, the panoramic print will be on display in the Cultural Center Atrium, along with excerpts from interviews.

Join the Blue Ribbon Foundation for 'Paint the Fair' a social painting class in the Cultural Center. All proceeds from the painting class are dedicated to the Fair's future. The $35 price includes: a canvas, paints, brushes and 1 ½ hours of instruction to paint a picture featuring an aspect of the Iowa State Fair. Register online blueribbonfoundation.org today.

The Cultural Center is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. throughout the Fair. For more information, please contact the Competitive Events Department at 515-262-3111 ext. 207 or for a complete schedule of activities in the Cultural Center, visit www.iowastatefair.org.

Photography and fine art fans alike have a chance to take home their very own piece of the Iowa State Fair with the Photography Salon book and the Fine Art Gallery Guide book. Fairgoers can purchase both books which feature prized exhibits and judge's favorites from the photography and fine arts exhibits displayed from the 2017 Iowa State Fair, August 10-20 for $5 in the Cultural Center.

Photographers Capture the Judges Eye in Iowa State Fair Competition
