An Asian was arrested by the Dubai Police anti-narcotics department for smuggling drugs. The man had been importing drugs hidden in the folds of garments, in cooperation with his brother who lived in his native country.
Brigadier-General Eid Mohammed Thani Harib, director-general of the anti-narcotics department, said it was "not easy to discover the rare method of concealment used by the accused, as he hid them in the square on which the fabrics are folded".
"Under the operation 'Fold', the police managed to arrest the accused in front of the hotel where he stored the smuggled drugs to distribute it to drug dealers. The operation was successful under the direct and accurate follow-up of Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police and under the supervision of Major-General Khalil Ibrahim al-Mansouri, assistant commander-in-chief of criminal investigation department.
"The suspect was arrested after investigations and monitoring his suspicious movements. He moved between several areas in Dubai and other emirates loading his vehicle with drugs.
"The total drugs seized from him was 283kg and included three types of drugs pills in addition to 20kg of crystal meth. He was charged with possession and promotion of psychotropic substances and was referred to the public prosecution.
