May 23, 2018 at 10:50 am

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister’s Special Advisor for the Middle East, Ambassador Rumen Petrov, said the Bulgarian position is firm and clear and will not recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel or any change in the legal status of the Holy City without an agreement between Palestinians and Israelis.

“The visits of Western officials to the occupied territories, especially East Jerusalem, does not mean recognising any change in the legal status of the city of Jerusalem or recognising the settlements there,” Petrov said during a meeting with the Palestinian ambassador to Bulgaria, Ahmad Al-Mathbour.

He stressed that Bulgaria is committed to international law and the European Union’s position regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The two sides discussed a number of issues of common interest including the signing of a number of agreements, preparations for a political consultation session and the new arrangements relating to the Bulgarian embassy in Palestine.
